GLORIOUS GAME
at
HOLLAND & HOLLAND
On the 12th November we hosted our first Glorious Game event at the Shooting Grounds and what a fantastic day it was! The day was conceived by our head chef, Joshua Hunter to celebrate the end of Great British Game Week and showcase the phenomenal amount of wild game we have at our disposal in the UK.
The weather put on perfect autumnal day of crisp air and bright sunshine and after our guests started the day with hot drinks, pastries and a briefing from the instructors everyone headed out into the grounds for three hours of fabulous simulated game shooting.
Josh was joined in the kitchen by three celebrated game chefs - Mark Kempson from Kitchen W8, Leon Challis-Davies who is Chef ambassador for the British Game Assurance and celebrity chef, Valentine Warner. Despite their busy schedule in the kitchen, the chefs were able to get out into the grounds to enjoy some shooting too.
Guests enjoyed a warming drink and decadent Vahlrona brownie at elevensees before heading back to the terrace to enjoy a refreshing glass of Tickerage English sparkling wine on the terrace.
Once guests were seated at the beautiful banqueting tables, the chefs were introduced by our host for the day - renowned food critic and author, William Sitwell. What followed was the most decadent display of game dishes including venison tartare, wild boar arancini with white Alba truffle, raviolo of red legged partridge and mallard with poached quince. Not forgetting some incredible desserts and a selection of entirely British cheeses. Every course was paired with an exquisite and unusual wine carefully selected by our sommelier, Sean Arthur.
During the course of the afternoon, William Sitwell hosted a fantastic live auction with all proceeds going to the Country Food Trust. We were joined by SJ Hunt from the charity who gave a brief talk on the incredible work that the charity does, providing meals for those in need using game meat which is high in protein, low in fat and full of nutrition. An incredible £4750 was raised and a huge thanks to those who donated so generously. For more information on the charity and to donate to their winter appeal, click on the link below.
We hope all those who attended this wonderful day enjoyed it as much as we did - plans are already underway for the next one!
